Black Moon or Lilith: what is it and what does it mean in your birth chart?
If you pointed a telescope at the Black Moon, you wouldn’t see anything. It isn’t a rock, a celestial body or a hidden second moon. It is a geometric point: the place in the Moon’s orbit where it is farthest from Earth. A point along its path where the Moon moves as far away as it can, before coming back again.
It is, literally, an emptiness. A maximum distance. And astrology gave that emptiness the name of the first woman who, according to the story, refused.
Lilith
Lilith was Adam’s first wife. When the time came to have sex, Adam wanted her to lie beneath him. Lilith said no: they had been created from the same thing, they were equals, and she would not place herself beneath anyone.
They argued. And then Lilith did something enormous in the story: she spoke the unspeakable name of God and flew away.
She went to the Red Sea. Three angels were sent after her, ordered to bring her back, with a threat if she refused. She heard the threat and said no again. And now for the part almost nobody tells: in that same story, Lilith does not become a heroine. She becomes a frightening being who attacks newborn babies. Later, Kabbalistic literature turns her into the queen of demons.
That is the story. A woman who refused, was exiled for refusing, and was turned into a monster by tradition because she did it. All three things at once.
What does Black Moon Lilith mean in your birth chart?
